Jeff Abbott's World Book Night Choice

Jeff Abbott's World Book Night Choice

Posted by in Book News

Last week, Team Atom chose our favourite YA titles (and BOY that was hard…how we managed to whittle down our lists I'm not sure) to put forward for the 2012 World Book Night giveaway. Because this time, it's the public that get to choose which titles they'd like to see being handed out for free. Exciting, non?

We've asked our authors to come up with their favourites to give you even more inspiration – if you'd like to join in just head to www.worldbooknight.org

Jeff Abbott, author of Panic: The Ultimate Edition, has chosen:

The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud: For when you're ready to go beyond Harry Potter (and I love those books, too), Stroud's world—one ruled by magicians, whose power comes from controlling magical beings—is extraordinary. The series centers on Nathaniel, an ambitious young magician, and Bartimaeaus: a smart-mouthed, clever, cunning five thousand year old djinn who would like nothing better to be free of Nathaniel's command. They make an unforgettable team.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: The suspense in this book is absolutely extraordinary, and no one writes action better than Collins. You feel like you are in the arena with Katniss, fighting for your life. The emotional stakes in this book are amazing as well. Could not put it down.

Airman by Eoin Colfer: He's better known for his Artemis Fowl books, but I love this story of Conor Broekhart, a boy wrongly accused of a crime and sent to a prison where his only hope of escape is to build a flying machine. Plus—it has swords! Why this book isn't a movie yet I don't know.
