I’ll admit that I was pretty sceptical about this book at first, as it appeared to be just another Twilight-“inspired” paranormal romance. While the plot – a love triangle involving werewolves and a mysterious stranger, with a few suspicious motives thrown in for good measure – is rather similar to many other books I have read, there were enough original ideas to raise this above the normal mediocrity. The back story and characters are well thought through and the hierarchy of the secret supernatural world adds another intriguing dimension to the story.
If you aren’t a fan of paranormal romance, this book isn’t going to change your mind, but for those who don’t mind the fairly predictable story arc, this is far better than most of the alternatives.

I think this is a really interesting, honest review but I have to say I definitely don't think Andrea Cremer has jumped on the Twilight bandwagon with Nightshade! Cremer has constructed a really complex world here with dark and sinister undertones that make it a cut above the other YA paranormal romance novels out there. It's also really refreshing to have a strong female character at the centre. If you aren't a fan of paranormal romance already I'd say Nightshade would be a great place to start…
